Why Folate?

Folate, one of the B-complex vitamins (vitamin B9), is required in order to make white and red blood cells in bone marrow, as well as DNA and other genetic material. It is also utilized during cell division and energy conversion. Most commonly discussed in regards to pregnancy, infancy, and adolescence, this vitamin supports rapid growth and optimal health. These are some of the reasons we have included folate in our Methyl-Up product.

Latin for the word folium, which means leaf, folate is commonly found in many leafy vegetables. Folate is water-soluble and although it can be obtained from select foods, dietary supplements ensure that recommended daily amounts are consumed. In this form, folate is often high in terms of its bioavailability.

Folate is often recommended to healthy reproductive health and it has also been widely studied in regards to poor mood.

Studies have also shown that folic acid supplements may effectively lower levels of homocysteine, which is associated with a higher risk of poor cardiovascular health. It may also improve vascular function, supporting optimal heart health.

While the majority of the population consumes enough folate, select groups are at risk of a deficiency. In these cases, a folate deficiency is typically associated with alcoholism, malabsorptive disorders, and poor diet.
